Minor Ailment Scheme

Did you know you might be able to get treatment for minor illnesses from your local pharmacist? You might not need to wait to see a GP.

Minor ailments are one of the most common issues that result in the use of urgent care services. One in five GP consultations are for minor ailments and by reducing the time spent by GPs on managing minor ailments, it would enable them to focus on more complex cases and could reduce patient waiting times.

The treatment of minor ailments was found to account for 18-20% of GP workload with 90% of those consultations solely for minor ailments. In the Greater Manchester area, this equates to approximately 2.5 million consultations per year that could potentially move to community pharmacy.

A list of participating pharmacies is available. For the most up-to-date list please visit www.psnc.org.uk/community-pharmacy-greater-manchester
